I am so thankful that God is patient with me! The amount of times I have said to someone ‘I am waiting on the Lord, if it’s His will, I’ll …[insert crazy hearts desire dream here]’ but did I think of going to the bible and actually de-bunking these words that I so often use? Nope.

I think God must chuckle sometimes when I’m asking questions that he’s already provided the answers for, but along side the chuckle there’s always a gentle nudge in the direction of the answer!

So here goes…

What is God’s will? 

To know if something is God’s will we first have to understand what his will is, we can find this in the Bible.

The answer can be found in 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJ – New King James version)

(The Lord is)…’not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.’

Let’s look at that word repentance shall we? It’s an old school word really and if we look at it just in the English it can look a bit meh, it can be a bit uncomfortable, but if we look to the original Greek it comes from the word metanoeo (Meh-ta-noy-a) which literally means a changing of the heart.

This repentance, yes it means asking for forgiveness, but the result of that forgiveness is transformation, sinlessness through Jesus Christ, true freedom.

So God doesn’t want anyone to be lost or to die, he wants us to be changed from heart. Not by begging forgiveness, but by asking Him to change our heart and letting him change our lives through that.

God’s will = our hearts to be changed.

So when we pray in the Lord’s prayer ‘Your kingdom come, your will be done’ we are actually saying ‘We can’t wait to live with you in heaven, we want everyone to have a change of heart and follow you, so they can be in heaven too’

Our journey as a Christian (a follower of Jesus) begins with repentance, and repentance is a heart transformation!

When our hearts are transformed and we are living as a child of God, our hearts desires become lined up with what God wants for us in life, therefore, if it’s on your heart, it’s his will.

So take hold of that crazy, life changing idea, the deep down dreams that you thought you’d never achieve, dig them out, show them the light and let them grow.
